Plan of Action Outline
1. You may want to contact a few key people in your congregation and show them our website or explain how this system works. They may want to purchase the funnel(s) up front for you in exchange for a promotional spot or to simply help out with the fundraising efforts for your ministry need. In this way, your budget stays intact and every penny that comes in is profit. In addition, when the campaign starts you will want to announce "We have only ___ spots left......get yours before they're all gone!" People react quicker when they see someone else has already acted, psychologically they don't want to miss out on a good deal!
2. Place the Coin Tornado(s) in the foyer or other high traffic area of the church where the highest number of members will see it. The maximum period of time to keep it there is 30 days, set a deadline. Make the deadline known to motivate action (funnels will not perform well if simply left inside the church). Specifically, you're looking for the members of your congregation who own businesses.
To make this system work you need 2 ingredients: Host Home & Advertising Sponsors
- a.) A host home is a high traffic business location where you want to place the funnel semi-permanently. They are the key to everything because the advertising sponsors will only want to be inside a good, highly visible area of the community. What would an advertiser perceive to be a great location? The host also determines the kind of advertisers you will obtain. For example, if your host is a women's hair salon - then a guy with a truck accessory business would probably not want to be in there. On the other side, if your host is a hardware store, then a woman with a nail salon will probably not want to be in there. The host is very important & must be established in the beginning. Try to secure the host within the first week.
- b.) Advertising Sponsors are the other businesses who will be purchasing the ads that will be placed on the funnel sides. They will want to know where the funnel is going (the host location) before they will want to purchase anything. Often, you may only need a few advertisers; they may want to have a poster on 2 sides which will limit any other spots. Sometimes one large advertiser will want exclusive visibility and buy out the whole table.
3. Choose a person who is closely associated with the ministry need to be in charge of the campaign and keep it on track. There are a few things they will need to do:
- a.) Place the ministry need below our posters on the side of the table. Keep it simple and to the point so those passing by can read it easily & quickly.

- b.) Place a brochure holder on the top of the table with take home cards requesting a Host and Advertising Sponsors. A template for the card is provided (on the disc under: Card Host Location side A), you may want to use it just like it is or change it to better fit your specific need. These are ready to print, just take the page (Host on 1 side, Advertiser on the other) down to an office supply store. They can make copies onto some card stock and cut them for you very inexpensively.
- c.) During announcements on Sunday mornings let the congregation know about the ministry need, why the Tornado is in the Foyer, and when the deadline is. If some spots have been sold, be sure to say something like: "We only have a few spots left...." Focus attention on finding a Host until the host home is secured. Then focus on Advertising Sponsors to go on the table. It's good to have a person standing by the Tornado handing out the information cards during busy times. You may even want to insert them into the bulletin on Sunday mornings. If so, you can direct them to fill out the card and drop it with their check into the offering, or they can put it all in the Coin Tornado on their way out.
- d.) Any other ways your church uses to communicate with the congregation needs to be utilized. Newsletter, e-mail, special events, etc. BE SURE to include the deadline in all forms of contact to move them to action.
4. Hopefully they will step forward and a Host will be found quickly. Often people would love to help but simply don't understand or have not paid attention. Look at your membership and select a few key business owners that would be excellent host locations. Who would the advertising sponsors in your congregation perceive as being a great host? Contact them and explain how it all works. You may want to offer the host a free advertisement on another Tornado you are placing. Be sure they are not in competition with each other before you offer. Also make sure the advertisers going into a host location are not in competition with them.

5. We have included a worksheet to keep track of the ad space as it is purchased. The very best way to keep an eye on this is to have the person that's handing out the cards by the Tornado also mark the spaces as they are purchased. This will help you determine how much interest there is and if you need additional Coin Tornados to fill the demand.
-
a.) You may want to assign someone who is good at computer graphics to be in charge of working up the ads. Contact the advertisers and ask them what they want their ad to say. Most often, they will have something already made up that was used for other ads with their logo and basic information. If they do not have anything you may want to work something up for them using their business card. Once again, set a deadline for them to get their information to you - 5 days. Let them know that the funnel is going on location soon and you need to get the ad up. We have included an Ad Copy Form which is simply an outline of how they want their ad to look. If you do not have anyone to perform the artwork, you can generally have it done at an office supply store. We designed the table to accommodate 8"X10" ads so you can print them right off a computer.
- b.) If you want to use an ad contract, we have also included a ready to print version on the disc. You will need to fill out the red areas with your information and then print them off. It's up to you whether you want to go 6 months or 1 year.
- c.) At the set time, go ahead and place the funnel in the host even if all the artwork is not yet finished. You can easily change out information behind the plexiglass after its on location. If one of the advertisers drags their feet getting information to you it will only cost them time and not all the other advertising sponsors.
6. We recommend rotating the table or ads every quarter and depositing the change. If there is someone who collects coins, they may be elated to get this job. By rotating the ads it gives a more equal exposure to everyone. You may want to check with your bank first but most have coin machines that they can dump the change into and then deposit into your account.
The coins are a small but steady portion of the income created by Coin Tornado. The real power is in its attraction for advertisers. The beauty behind this system is that once it's in motion, it will continue to produce an income from now on without much maintenance. The advertisers generally renew their ads the next year or can easily be replaced by another.
Check List:
- Designate a campaign leader who is associated with the ministry need
- The leader needs to:
- a. Place ministry need information below our poster on the Tornado
- b. Assign a deadline and place Tornado(s) in foyer for no more than 30 days
- c. Customize information cards and put in brochure holder on the Tornado. Determine whether or not to include them as an insert in the Sunday morning bulletins and how you want to handle the response (put in offering or Tornado-or both).
- d. Determine any other ways you want to notify the congregation: Newsletter, e-mail, up-coming events, during Sunday morning announcements, etc.
- e. If feasible, assign someone to handout the information cards while standing by the Tornado during busy times.
- f. Assign someone to perform artwork and correspond with advertisers (you may be surprised at the talent within your youth to draw up ads!)
3. Place Coin Tornado(s) in the host home location with advertising sponsors. Assign someone to deposit the change and rotate the table every 3 months.
